Useful anywhere desiccation is needed, these cartridges contain inert, non-corrosive and non-toxic silica gel. They fit “Space Saver” desiccators, in addition to other plastic desiccators of similar size.
- Clear polystyrene dish allows instant visual inspection of silica gel, which changes in color from blue to pale pink as it absorbs moisture
- Highly porous membrane covers the dish providing excellent moisture absorption
- Desiccant can be easily regenerated by heating cartridges in a 50ºC (122ºF) oven overnight
- For more rapid drying, cut the membrane, transfer the spent gel crystals into a glass or porcelain dish, and place in a 150ºC (300ºF) oven for one hour
- Individually foil sealed
- Cartridge Diameter: 4"
- Desiccant: 38g
Silica gel is a substance that absorbs moisture from the air. Silica gel is inert, non-toxic, non-corrosive and non-friable. The cartridge in which these silica gel beads are contained is made from clear polystyrene with a porous membrane covering the gel. When placed inside a desiccator these silica gel beads will act as a moisture sink, continuously absorbing any moisture that is in the air, or that has been released by the products stored inside the desiccator. The silica gel beads in this product are specially formulated to contain a color-changing moisture indicator that turns from blue to pale pink, indicating that the silica gels beads are saturated with moisture and can not absorb any additional moisture. When the silica gel has changed color to pale pink, it should be replaced with a fresh cartridge, or regenerated as discussed below. Directions for use: • Carefully open the foil package with scissors or a knife. • Place cartridge(s) in the desiccator and inspect occasionally to observe color change. • When silica gel has changed color to pale pink, it should be replaced with a fresh cartridge, or regenerated as follows: - Heat cartridge in a drying oven at 50°C (122°F) for 8 to 12 hours. - For faster regeneration, cut the membrane and transfer the silica gel beads to a glass or ceramic dish, and place in a drying oven at 150°C (300°F) for 1 hour.
